BSK: Responder
Welcome to Responder!
This mini-game, included in your MKII Brand Strategy Kit and MKII Marker Card set, is designed to encourage people to engage with and explore their answers to prompts.
Shared ideas scale because socialising ideas allows them to be quickly refined, iterated and improved.
The game is all about the exchange of ideas (also known as answers) and the acquisition of valuable feedback, which is crucial in refining and enhancing your strategies, concepts, and plans. Pitching and giving feedback drive the process, making it a key part of the game.
Feedback can range from simple affirmations like 'I understand and like your idea, good job!' to something that sounds like the start of a more detailed discussion: 'I was confused, scared, and didn't understand what you were talking about. Could you clarify? '
Both types are valuable in their own way. Believe it or not, the later response is actually more useful in the short run because it means you have an immediate area for improvement.
Key things to remember about Responder:
The purpose of Responder is to collect feedback, and it's important to remember that this is a learning process. So, please don't get upset when someone gives it to you, as it's all part of the game and the journey towards improvement.
The game can be used for each Marker prompt, but it can also be used with Mode cards to discuss setup and content ideas related to your marketing's direction.
How to Play Responder.
Find a friend or group of friends - some people who can listen to your idea be explained.
Starting with the A cards (A-1), PITCH - share your idea.
STATE - problems and potential plans.
HANDOVER- the cards and your ideas to the other person or people.
Now that the tables have turned flip the cards to the B side.
Starting with the B-1 card, REPEAT back what you think the Pitcher was trying to share. If you don't understand what they were trying to explain, tell them that! Discussing what didn't make sense is important and is literally how the explanation gets improved!
Once you have completed the previous step, you may already have started the FEEDBACK conversation. The B-2 card helps guide things to a practical conclusion.
Once you're done HANDSHAKE or HI-5 to complete the cycle.
Repeat for the next prompt, idea, Marker, or Mode!
When your session is over, remember to thank the person(s) with whom you've been playing Responder. It takes a special kind of person to give you valuable feedback; by doing so, they have helped you improve your idea and achieve your goals sooner!
Note: The time limits printed on each card are an indication; they don't need to be strictly followed, especially if a meaningful conversation with valuable feedback breaks out!
